| This might be kind of long but just want to explain everything and then ask what recommendations you guys would suggest. I have been having a coolant issue for quite some time and I think it is in part to the coolant has been rusty pretty much since I bought the car but over the last few years I am replacing part after part of the coolant system as they fail and It is getting rather aggravating coupled with the fact the car is unreliable. I try to keep it clean by flushing it multiple times a year but it doesn't go away. Anyway one of the coolant tubes on the back of the motor cracked and the only way I see fixing it is taking out the block. While I'm in there I figured I would replace all the coolant lines and possibly the freeze plugs as I had one rust out a year ago. Also I took off the top coolant hose to install a water temp gauge and inside the hard pipe to the block it wasn't just rusty but more of a copper color paste... anyway here are my questions and as always any help would be appreciated. 1. Is there a way to neutralize the rust in the block? 2. Any idea what the copper is? Head Gasket? 3. Since I'm pulling the motor would a head gasket be a good idea to do? Car is a 90 with 97k on it. 4. Any other advise would help as well on what I should do. Thanks Guys
